Teach your students to use their reading mats to keep track of the books they read during their independent or partner reading time. Students put a stack of books from their book box or bag on the green side of the reading mat to start. As they read each book, they move it to the red side. You can give students a post it note to keep on the red side of the file folder. Every time they read a book they can make a tally mark to keep track. At the end of the reading time they can add up how many books they got through and make a goal to read more tomorrow based off that number. I have my students keep their reading mats in their book boxes so that they can use them daily!
Use this reading mat to help your students keep track of their reading progress at school and set goals for themselves!
