Chorus Vocal Range BUNDLE

♪ ♪ ♪ FAVORITE STUDENT ACTIVITY ♪ ♪ ♪

♪ Students love learning what their vocal range is: knowing which notes are at the bottom of the barrel (growl note) and the very top pitch of their vocal range.
♪ Matching pitch is a pre-requisite, which helps you identify any students struggling with this.
♪ Goals are to find how low and high they can sing, if they can sing a High C, and if they have a true whistle register. For the guys, it is always fun to locate the range of their FALSETTO.
♪ Once you find a student with a whistle register, video them and show them to the other classes. From year to year (with their permission, of course), I would show the videos. I have quite a collection.
♪ Two famous singers with YouTube Videos of their whistle registers are Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande.
♪ I developed a few strategies to help streamline the process, like having them sing five notes in a row. C4-G, A5-E5, etc. Then they circle the notes on their paper that they can sing. You can also assess groups three at a time at the piano if the rest of the class will be very quiet.
♪ Students must understand they will need to sing loud enough for you to be able to verify, that in fact, they do match the pitches.
♪ It literally may take 3 class days to get through this activity with all students in a class, but it's worth every minute.
♪ This activity also helps students locate specific pitches on the staff.
