This book was designed to be a resource for students to use during independent writing time. I copy the cover onto cardstock for durability, the remaining pages on regular paper, and add another piece of cardstock for the back cover. One suggestion I have is to add a piece of colorful duct tape to the back cover where the staples poke through. This will prevent the staples from snagging clothes and poking fingers.
My students then keep these word books in their writing folders for easy access. When students do not know how to spell a word, they know that they have this tool they can refer to. If the word they are looking for is not in this book, they can simply add the word with help from the teacher.
This book includes:
• A cover
• A section for each letter A-Z
• A section for animals, colors, days of the week, family, holidays,
months of the year, numbers, school, and shapes
I have included all 220 Dolch words. The other words in this book are words that my students, over the years, have regularly asked how to spell. There is also room to write your own words within each section.
