I use these lessons at the end of a MyPlate unit. First, we plan out making our MyPlate Mascot which takes about 40 or so minutes. Then, we make play-doh for the mascot. I do the play-doh demonstration in one 50-minute class period. They make the play-doh the next 50-minute class period. The next day we create the mascot. They present their mascot to the class. This is a great way to teach planning ahead, MyPlate, measuring ingredients and authentic demonstration of understanding of concepts in a life skills class. Included are teacher directions, student examples, a play-doh recipe and student directions for the mascot.
