This book study is a mini-course in the mystery genre. Students choose a mystery book at their "just right" reading level and then address:
A quote for analysis and debate
Title, author, publication date
Main character, supporting characters
Character traits with a list of traits
Setting (tone, mood)
Problem or conflict
Events sequenced correctly
Resolution (sense of justice or closure)
Glossary including: alibi, evidence, sleuth, victim, witness
Text evidence bookmarks (very important for a good detective)
Application of knowledge
Terms are defined allowing for greater student independence and success.
This book study is great for guided reading, whole group instruction, or book clubs too. It easily allows for differentiation.
