Want a fun and engaging science investigation for a unit on matter? Look no further than this mystery liquid investigation. Not only will your students get to learn about viscosity or flow of liquids, but they will be using their nature of science standards as they observe and record like scientists.
Set out mystery liquids in cups around the room and have your students rotate smelling and observing each one. Then they make a guess as to what they think the liquid might be! My students have loved this activity each and every year!
Sample liquids include: soap, lotion, chocolate syrup, ketchup, salad dressing, soda, water, tea, hand sanitizer, barbecue sauce, etc. The more creative the better! Included at the top of the investigation sheet is a word bank to help students with the descriptive qualities.
