The intent of this activity is to allow students to explore curricular concepts in and practice writing skills in a collaborative, inquiry based setting without the boring 'Sit and Get” lecture style as a way to promote inquiry in research in your classroom. One of the many benefits of Skyping with other classes is that you get to make connections to classrooms outside your area! I have found partner classrooms on Twitter (hashtag #skype), Pinterest, and on epals.com. I have also used https://education.skype.com/ Epals.com is excellent for finding international connections! Be sure to follow me @bkknobloch and ask me to help you make connections.
The general idea of a Mystery Skype is to have your students write fact based clues that range from easy to hard about your state. The clues will eventually narrow down the specific town your school is located in. Questions will start with general information, about your state, and then move into more specific information about your town.
