Working through word problems can be difficult for many students.
Instead of teaching “key words”, which can be misleading, helping students understand the action in the problem will give them a better idea of which operation to use to solve.
In this activity, students work in pairs or small groups to act out a math problem. Similar to reader’s theater, you can allow students to use simple props to liven up the activity! Students will act out the problem and write a number sentence that could be used to find the solution.
Included in your purchase are the following:
*a customizable PowerPoint with directions and 6 word problems, including all 4 operations
*a customizable worksheet for independent practice after the activity
*a customizable rubric to evaluate the performances
