How do you handle whole class compliments and whole class critiques? If you don't have a plan in place or are looking for a new one, let me introduce you to: Mystery Motivator!
This is how it works:
In the pack, you will see little labels you can tape on to a container of your choice. Then, there are slips that your will copy on to red paper, and green paper.
The red slips are given when your class earns a negative critique. For example, a rough day overall during specials (as a class) earns them a red slip. A student helper fills out a red slip and puts it in the Mystery Motivator bucket.
The green slips are given when your class earns a class compliment. For example, a compliment from a teacher noticing how quiet your class is walking in the hallway earns the class a green slip. A student helper fills out a red slip and puts it in the Mystery Motivator bucket.
At the end of each quarter, our class comes up with a list of different rewards we want to have. Once we come up with a consensus, we draw a slip from the Mystery Motivator bucket. If its a green slip, we earn the reward. If it is a red slip, we do not earn the reward. We always read what earned us that slip (which that student helper had filled out at the time of the complement of critique).
My students LOVE this and it has worked well in my classroom! Good luck and enjoy it!
