PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Madame Pinkleton’s jewels have gone missing! The Chief Inspector is counting on YOU to crack the case, Detective.

In this interactive task card activity, students will solve a series of mystery number task cards in order to "crack the case".

Mystery numbers are a great way to build number sense, practice computation, and reinforce place value concepts. The mystery number problems in this pack involve 3- and 4-digit numbers, and are best suited for students in grades 3 and 4. It would also make a good review activity for 5th graders.

This is a print-and-go back that will get your students thinking, moving, and having fun as they solve problems.

CONTENTS:

p. 3 The “Brief” (color version)

Use this page to introduce the activity to your students. You can make a copy for each student if you choose, but it’s not necessary. Save time and ink by projecting it on a SmartBoard, document camera, etc. and going over it as a class. This page is the “hook” - students will not need to refer to them throughout the activity.

p. 4 - 10 The Clue Cards (color version)

The clue cards are printed 2 per page, so just cut them apart prior to using. Place the clue cards around the room, or simply put them on a table, in a center, etc. The students will go from clue to clue, solving each one. Students do NOT need to go in order, so many students can participate at the same time if you wish.

p. 11 Recording Page (color version)

This is where students will record their answers. If you see any incorrect answers, you can send them back to check out the clue again.

p. 12 Answer Key (color version)

p. 13 - 14 I Cracked the Case! Certificates (color version)

These optional certificates are a fun way to reward detectives who successfully crack the case. I’ve included 2 options, one with a female detective, and one with a male detective.

p. 15 - 26 Black and White Versions of ALL Components

You can check out the preview file for a detailed look at the activity!
