This is a mystery picture that is great any time of the year! In this activity, students first solve place value and addition problems. There are three versions:
The easiest are problems in this format: __ tens __ ones (ex. 6 tens 7 ones = 67).
The next version has some of the __ tens __ ones problems, as well as expanded notation (60 + 7), using doubles, adding 10 (57 + 10).
The first two versions use the 1-120 number chart.
3. The more challenging version uses a number chart ranging from 800 – 920. It has problems such as these: 8 hundreds 6 tens 7 ones, 800 + 60 + 7, 767 + 100, 857 + 10.
For all versions, students then color in these numbers on the appropriate chart to discover the mystery picture. All three versions have the same picture. The picture is a fun red car with two orange stripes, complete with working headlights.
Answer keys are included for all versions.
