For beginning students: I print out a mystery picture in color and the corresponding black & white chart. Sometimes I print out an extra color picture for me to reference. I cut apart the color picture into the 100 squares. I start with one line at a time. I hold up a square and ask the student to read it and give prompts if necessary. Once it’s read, the student glues it onto the black and white chart. This is a great way to have students learn to read the words, but they may have difficulty with fine motor skills and being able to use the color key.
Tasks can be for individual or small group work.
