The Mystery Puzzle Senses by Dione is based on the Characteristics of Science skills. The purpose of this activity is for the students to use observations and inferences to draw conclusions. In this activity, the students are grouped into several groups. Each group will receive a bag with a 100 piece of the same puzzle all mixed up. The students will draw puzzle pieces from the bag to make observations based on color, size, what they see, etc. Also, for each pull each group will make an inference to try and determine what is in the picture. The goal of this activity is to encourage students to use three of the senses sight, touch, and hearing to determine what the final product is. Additionally, each group will have the opportunity to participate in a Carousel. The students will move around the room in their groups and will have a minute at each of the other group puzzles. This is to demonstrate collaboration which is an essential part of Science. This activity also includes discussion questions. This activity can be adapted for Elementary students by having fewer puzzle piece puzzles.
