This has been an all-time favorite activity in my classroom regardless of the age! Every other week I have a "mystery reader" (i.e., typically student's parent) come into our classroom to read to the class 1-2 read-aloud selections of their choice. The way this activity works is the week before the "mystery reader" is scheduled to come, I send home a letter asking for them to provide some fun clues that tells us a little bit about themselves. Throughout the week, I share one clue per day leading up to their visit with the kids (i.e., the clues should get more obvious as the week progresses). The kids get so interested in trying to figure out the "mystery reader" all week long and are so excited when they guess correctly! This is a great activity to get parents involved, promote a love of reading, and get student problem-solving and using their critical thinking skills.
This product includes the "Mystery Reader Sign-Up Sheet," which can be used for parents to sing-up for various slots throughout the school year, as well as a the "Mystery Reader Clue Letter" that can be sent home to parents to complete prior to their assigned week. I do have an editable version of this product, so please let me know if you would prefer that version once you purchase the item. Enjoy!
