I have found a way to eliminate many behavior issues in my classroom. When students enter my classroom I find a way to secretly tell one individual that they are the mystery student of the day. At the end of class we take five volunteers of who students suspect the mystery student may have been. To be chosen students should participate often in class, should follow all school rules, and go above and beyond what is expected. Any student who gets selected will be typed onto the "Mystery Student of the Day" sheet and will get to choose from any small prize. If the actual mystery student gets picked, they will receive a larger reward. The sheet provided includes three blocks since my school day is split into three sections, but you can use this idea with any number of classes. This is a great way for all students to be aware of their behavior and encourages students to be actively engaged in discussion.
