Use this detective case report for any mystery book your students are reading. For my mystery unit, I have my students grouped into book clubs, with each club reading their own book.
As students read together, they take notes, filling out their case report. Focus is on the crime committed, detectives, sidekicks, suspects, motives, clues, and conclusion.
The detective case report is chunked (B, M, E) for beginning, middle and end of the story. I find that in mysteries it is help for students to chunk the sections of their book to help them track comprehension...after all if you've reached the middle of the story and don't have ANY suspects, it means you've missed something!!
