Language consists of units of sound called phones. Phones are represented in print by letters and letter patterns. Children must learn to distinguish phones as seperate units if they are to match letters and sounds within words. Here is a simple activity for students to practice matching letters and sounds within words.
You will need to create a sleeve to house your mystery word sliders. I use construction paper. I cut an 8" x 10" rectangle. I fold and glue the length about a 1/4" from the edge and the right end as well. This will Keep the word slider from coming out and only able to be slid out from left to right (the way we read).
