Making words is fun in a literacy center, or as an independent activity. The challenge of making and building words is a skill that is aligned with the common core standards for Reading Foundational Skills: RF 1.3, 2.3, 3.3.
This popular activity comes in different versions~~anagrams, scrambled words, word-building....all are based on manipulating and rearranging letters to form new words.
This packet has 10 sets (pages) of mystery words, or scrambled words. Each set has 3 words on each page, totaling 30 words. The three words on a page are related in some way. Mystery words are 6 letters long (a few have only 5). Students have fun making words by cutting up the letter boxes and forming several words before solving the final word.
There are different ways this activity can be done, depending upon the needs of your students. Young students need the concrete activity of manipulating cut up words. Older students may prefer to just write out the words and the final mystery (unscrambled ) word.
For individuals, and small or large groups

If you want to make the activities permanent, laminate the pre-cut words and place in baggies, or envelopes.
