PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This 5 week unit covers the Common Core standards for narrative writing for 2nd grade (but could be used in an upper elementary classroom). It also incorporates standards in the areas of speaking and listening, language, and literature. Instruction is scaffolded to enable your students to become independent writers in the area of narrative writing.

The unit begins with a fun game to learn mystery vocabulary. Then the students create a mystery writing notebook to practice figurative language skills and story elements. The detailed lesson plans guide and support you and your students through the writing process, with anchor charts and planning sheets to help create mystery stories to be proud of! Finally, the unit culminates with an author's celebration and a "Super Sleuth" writing award.

Kagan Cooperative Learning structures are used in most lessons to ensure that your students are highly engaged in the learning process.

For your convenience, all printables can be found together at the end of the unit. That way there is no need to search through the lessons to find what you need. All of your handouts can be printed out at once before you begin instruction.

Everything you need is included in this unit!
