In this activity, students work with one of 3 provided Mystery mats in a group to complete the blank spaces in order to show verbal problems, one-variable two-step equations or inequalities that can be used to solve them, and the solutions presented in both algebraic and number line form. Use the activity to help students make connections between representations.
The mystery type activity provides for a different starting representation each time so that students are forced to think about the concept from different directions each time, unlike typical work that focuses on one direction of problem-solving.
Materials include 3 mats and all cards needed to complete them.
Grade 7: 10A, 10B, 10C, 11A, 11B
