Can be played whole group in an "Around the World" fashion or in teams. It could be played in small groups or centers, also. There should be a designated "card reader" and "timer." (great jobs for higher-level students)
How to play: Students pick a card and have "X" amount of time to name the 3 things it asks for. If all 3 things are named in the allotted time, that student or team keeps the card. The winner is the student or team with the most cards. This is similar to a game I saw while Christmas shopping online. The game I saw wasn't necessarily educational and didn't have much variability, so I made some cards of my own. It is a good activity for practicing quick thinking and discrimination. I have named this game "Name 3!" Teachers can change the allotted time over and over for any number of seconds, depending on student ability. I will use my timer app on my ActivBoard or my iphone. Doing it this way enables the teacher to differentiate for lower and higher-level students right in the middle of the game, too!
I could have made many many more cards, but I would never stop! This version is definitely for pre-k or kindergarten and includes letters, sounds, blends, animals, etc. If you are interested in more cards, or specific cards, let me know and I will be glad to make some more for you! They can be modified to match a specific test study guide, thematic unit, subject area, etc.
Some examples could be:
Name 3- differences between amphibians and mammals
Name 3- factors of the number "x"
Name 3- adverbs
Name 3- steps in the water cycle
Or for a fun Friday reward:
Name 3- popular actresses
Name 3- places you would LOVE to celebrate your birthday
Name 3- Christmas gifts you want this year
The possibilities are endless!
