I primarily created this resource for classroom teachers to use (and save hours of time in preparation) in response to the NSW Premier’s Priority to increase the proportion of NSW students in the top two NAPLAN bands for reading and numeracy by 8% by 2019. However, you can easily use them for your students with low achievement in your class and to really extend your top kids. These bundles are designed to push your middle students. In NSW, you are aiming to move your Band 4 students to Band 5 and your Band 5 students to Band 6.
Reading Stimuli are available for free through your DEC staff portal (through your SMART data site). They are ©ACARA and free. The cost for this resource is for my organisation, ideas, template and time in organising the questions into a working teacher resource.
The packages are the reading stimulus and the actual questions on a teacher page plus activities and ideas for teaching points. THERE ARE MANY ACTIVITY SHEETS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE WITH ANY TEXT AND AN ADDITIONAL 'FREE; RESOURCE I SELL ON THIS SITE to enhance your literacy text activities for Stage 1 and 2.
This bundle develops the understanding of Stages 1, 2 and 3 teachers in the style, language, difficulty and complexity level of NAPLAN questioning at specific band levels, as well as the syllabus outcome connection and literacy cluster level. Each question is supported by the band level, cluster level and aspect of literacy (from the Literacy Continuum, e.g. Comprehension Cluster 9) and English Syllabus. The question page is NOT DESIGNED for the students to use and answer on their own. Rather, explicit teaching points for the teacher to use during guided reading. I have also included a brief activity page and resource guide to use with the questions and text.
High expectations and clear learning intentions are the researched-based keys to success!
