This problem solving situation is designed to prepare students for higher level thinking and testing. A situation is presented, and from that situation, four problems are posed. Students are challenged to use multiple steps and higher level thinking in order to answer these questions.
This type of problem solving situation can be used for small group instruction, independent work, or as homework.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
