Do your students need more practice and a variety of ways to work with decimals? I have bundled 8 of my products that cover all things decimals! In the download you will receive a mixture of activity sheets, homework or assessment pages and task cards AND SAVE $4.25!!!
1. Decimal Place Value Quick Checks
While teaching decimals in fifth grade I find that students tend to understand certain pieces of the standard and not others at various times. I have created these “quick checks” that I give to my students at the end or beginning of the math lesson to see where they are at and what we need to focus on.
There are 12 different sheets that cover a mixture of the following parts of the standard: value of digits, place value of digits, comparing decimals, rounding decimals, ordering up to four decimals, writing decimals in expanded notation, decimals that are in expanded notation and students have to write them in standard form, and word form of decimals. Decimals on the sheets go up to the hundredths place. The mixture of these skills is great for spiral review too!
You can use these as homework sheets, laminate and place them at math centers to use with expos, quick reviews at beginning or end of lessons, assessments, etc. There is plenty of room on the sheet for the students to write their answers or even line up their decimals while ordering and/or comparing them.
Be sure to print in landscape format.
I have included an answer document for ease in checking answers. There is also a page with “I can statements” broken down for the standard for you or the student to check off with the date or even just a check mark when they can successfully complete each piece of the standard.
This document is aligned to: TEKS 5.2A, 5.2B, 5.2C and CCSS 5.NBT.3. 5.NBT.3.A, 5.NBT.3.B, 5.NBT.4
2. Decimal of the Day mat
This is one of my free products but I like to use it as a quick warm up review
3. Multiplying and Dividing Decimals Task Cards
This product includes 20 task cards, with a recording sheet and answer document, which challenge students to analyze the various models that represent the multiplication and division of decimals as well as mixed word problems.
Printing in color is highly suggested as it helps in the understanding of models on certain task cards.
This document is aligned to: TEK 5.3D 5.3E and 5.3F 5.3G CCSS 5.NBT.B.7
4. Multiplying Decimals with Models
This product includes 6 pages of questions (with answer sheets for each) that challenge students to analyze the various models that represent the multiplication of decimals.
Printing in color is highly suggested as it helps in the understanding of the models.
This document is aligned to TEK 5.3D multiplying decimals using objects and pictorial models
5. Multiplying Decimals with Models – specifically factors over a whole
Are your students having trouble grasping the concept of representing the multiplication of decimals through models? In this download I have created 6 practice pages of shaded equations with a factor over a whole for student to practice with, 4 pages with given equations where students need to shade in the model to represent it, 4 practice questions and an open ended page where students create their own word problem, equation, and shade in the model.
I’ve found that these open ended questions help my students to really see and understand this standard.
Printing in color is highly recommended as it helps in the understanding of the models. Answer key is provided for student self-check or teacher quick check. There is also an answer recording sheet for students to use if desired.
This document is aligned to TEK 5.3D and CCSS 5.NBT.B.7
NOTE: This document specifically focuses on the hundredths grid models with one factor over 1 whole and the other a decimal in the tenths place (ex: 1.3 x 0.4)
6. Dividing Decimals with models
This product includes 6 pages of questions (with answer sheets for each) that challenge students to analyze the various models that represent the division of decimals.
Answer documents are included for teacher quick check or student self-check at centers. I use these for small group practice lessons and homework. You can also put them in sheet protectors and have them at centers for the students to fill out with expos and they can use the answer documents to check for understanding.
7. Dividing Decimals with Models Mats
These activity mats will help your students master the new dividing decimals with models TEKS in no time. Print these out and laminate or put them in sheet protectors to allow your students to draw the models and write the equation to match the model. A completed example is provided along with answer keys so you can have the kids self-check at a center or during independent work time. I use these as a quick warm up and spiral review throughout the year. I also have my students actually use the base ten blocks to replicate the division problem as to make it more concrete in their brains!
This document is aligned to TEK 5.3F and CCSS 5.NBT.7
*note: dividends are only up to the hundredths and divisors are only one digit*
8. Dividing Decimals Practice Sheets
Included in this download are 14 practice pages for your students to work on dividing decimals in a variety of ways. There is a mixture of open ended questions and multiple choice questions using the following strategies: base ten model interpretation, word problems, area models, expanded form, and regular algorithm format.
Answer keys are included for student self-check or teacher quick-check. You can use these as center activities, homework practice, whole group problems, spiral review, etc.
There is one question per page to leave enough space for students to show their work and explain their thinking.
This document is aligned to TEK 5.3F and 5.3G along with CCSS 5.NBT.7
Be sure to print in landscape format!
All of these products separately would cost $16.25 to download, why not save $6.25 and purchase the bundle?? Your students will enjoy these real life examples and the variety of questions and activities!
