### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Print the mats and task cards (preferably in color), laminate or put the mats in plastic sleeves, and cut the task cards. Provide plastic coins and play bills for students to use.

Same Coin Counting Practice: Use the Counting Quarters, Dimes, Nickels or Pennies Mat or Counting Dollar Bills Mat. Place the same plastic coins or same play bills on the mat as you count. Use a dry erase marker to write the value as you count.

Making Change Practice: Use the Making Change Mat or Counting Dollar Bills Mat. Shuffle the task cards. Draw 1 random card at a time. Make the change using the plastic coins and play bills. Use a dry erase marker to practice writing the value of the collection of coins and bills.

Making Change Task Cards: Shuffle the 24 task cards. Provide 1 recording sheet for each student. Choose 1 random card at a time. Complete the task and record your answer. Work in pairs or small groups.

Texas: This activity is aligned to TEKS 3.4C. Determine the value of a collection of coins and bills.

Common Core: This activity is aligned to 2.MD.C.8. Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using \$ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have?

You will receive differentiated versions of the money mats. Some mats have places marked for coins and bills. Other versions are blank for students to write the money amount. Another version can be used for larger money amounts. Pick the right one for your students!
