This is a great activity to help students understand they complexity of the Mississippian Societies in Georgia prior to European Contact. Though this is specifically aligned to the Georgia Studies standard, SS8H1, this could also be used in a US History course with 11th grade.
Included in this document are the five requirements for the project, a sample poster layout to help students, and a grading rubric with space for teacher feedback.
This assignment can be used as an out-of-class project or an in-class project lasting two days. My favorite is to allow students to work in groups and to present their final product to the class.
