After a few years of teaching this standard I came across a strategy that really seems to “click” for my students year after year. So, I created this power point that I use to teach from. The power point focuses on how to find the missing dimensions in irregular shapes in order to calculate their area or perimeter.
The power point presentation animation is set up to work “click-by-click, step-by-step” to walk the students through the strategy.
I would recommend printing out the slides so that the students can follow along and highlight the sides as you present.
This document is aligned to Texas 5.4H (readiness)
Common Core: 4.MD.A.3
