The options are endless….
Depending on your students age and ability level you can use these cards in a variety of ways. Let your creativity show! Here are just a few options:
Have younger students use play money to show the value of the object on each price tag
Compare two price tags using < > = symbols
Order prices of 3 or more objects greatest to least or least to greatest
Give students a “budget” and ask them what they can afford to buy
Allow students to “go shopping” and pay with play money, they can get exact amounts or work on making change
Great real life practice for adding and subtracting decimals for upper elementary
Create a worksheet or center with a variety of the options above (I have included a sample worksheet with answer key in the download)
Use as an extension activity for fast finishers: have them create word problems and centers!
Since I work with students at various ability levels in small group settings I’m always looking for something that is easily adapted for everyone and these picture cards were born!! One student can use play money to show me how much something costs and then I can have other students adding, subtracting and multiplying decimals and whole numbers. There versatility is limitless!!!
