This real life project is aligned to 4th and 5th grade math skills.
Students will plan their own vacation to a destination of their choice. They will be required to complete the calculations for all of the components that go into planning a vacation: plane tickets or rental car and gas, lodging, food, entertainment and attractions. They are given a budget that they need to stay within as well. (Teacher note: students will need access to the internet to research plane tickets and hotels, etc.)
Once they calculate all of their expenses they will need to complete a written piece describing how and why they spent their money. Also, they will create a visual (power point, brochure, poster, etc.) and then present their project to the class.
Grading rubrics and student guideline sheets are included too!!
There are 3 different cover page templates to choose from for the cover of the project as well.
This project allows students to show their individuality, practice math skills such as: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals, staying within a given budget, describe actions that might be taken to balance a budget when expenses exceed budget, practice written and oral presentation skills.
