FROM THE DESK OF MS. TRAN
Why did I create this binder?
I created it for several reasons. First, I had to prep for maternity leave a few years ago and there were a lot of things I did right. And of course, there were a lot of things I would do differently. And so, I wanted to pass on my some of my wisdom to you.

Second, I understand all the emotions and feelings that come along with thinking about maternity leave and actually going on maternity leave. Like you, I’m devoted to teaching and my students. I felt a ton of guilt for leaving both of them even if it was for a short amount of time. With that being said, I wanted to make sure everything was perfect when I left. Since it’s impossible to have control over things when you aren’t physically there, I felt one thing I could do was to leave thorough plans for my substitute and students. This helped ease my mind.

Not only was I becoming a first time mom, I was becoming a working mom. I deeply understand the worry a teacher feels balancing both motherhood and a career. I had created an organized classroom that works like a well-oiled machine. Yet when preparing for maternity leave, I didn’t know where to begin or what it would be like going back to work. So, this binder is for anyone feeling what I felt. This binder is to give you a place to start. Take a deep breath and know that you can do this. Have a wonderful maternity leave. Now, go get started on planning for it!
