In this Acceleration Lab activity students work together to calculate their own velocity and acceleration. This lab activity is very engaging and fun for students as uses the NFL combine's 40 yard dash as a connection and allows them to get up out of their chairs and learn kinesthetically by holding their own 20 meter dash. The NFL combine acceleration activity is a great way for science teachers to connect students with the concepts and calculations of acceleration. Teachers may decide to act as the official timer (if class size allows for it) or could oversee the timing done by small groups. The lab also starts with a link to an official NFL video that explains the 40 yard dash so that students can gain an greater understanding of the NFL combine and specifically role of acceleration/40 yard dash. The NFL combine acceleration lab activity works best with small groups of 3 or 4.
