NFL Teams Crossword Puzzle (Fun activity for early finishers with answers)

This is a fun crossword puzzle for football fans of all ages.

Students love fun activities and teachers love no-prep resources.

**Please note: I created this puzzle at the end of the 2019-20 season and at that time Washington's football team was still called the "Redskins." (And that is what is in the puzzle.)

In July of 2020 the team finally dropped the racially insensitive name after its big corporate sponsors threatened to pull sponsorship. So at this point in time (Sept. 2020) the team doesn't really have a name. They are simply called the "Washington Football Team." (Reference)

I will get around to updating the puzzle, but I just wanted to let you know that at this time the old team name is still in the puzzle.

Perhaps you could use that as a chance to discuss some of the racially and culturally insensitive names and traditions in sports. **

How does this crossword puzzle work?

In this puzzle I list a football team name or city as a clue, and then the student has to fill in the other part to name the team.

For example:

If I write "Patriots" the student has to write "New England" into the crossword puzzle.

Or if I write "Green Bay" the students have to write "Packers" into the puzzle.

This is a fun puzzle for football fans of all ages, but I think the middle schoolers will have the most fun with it.

How can I use this puzzle in my classroom?

You could use this crossword puzzle as a way to keep early finishers busy, or you could use it as a unique way to teach American geography.
