In this lab, students will investigate six mystery blocks made of different materials. They will make observations and use the properties of color, electrical conductivity, and reflectivity to identify each block.
This lab is aligned to the 5th grade NGSS performance expectation 5-PS1-3: Make observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties.
NOTE - Lab materials required are a density block set (about $30; links where to buy are included) and electrical circuits for each group.
There is a teacher guide, student classwork packet, and answer key all included in this resource.
This lab builds upon another lab that I have available in my store, which has students identify materials based on the properties of solubility, color, and particle size: NGSS Aligned Matter and Chemistry Solubility Lab
