Use argument based on empirical evidence and scientific reasoning to support an explanation for how characteristic animal behaviors and specialized plant structures affect the probability of successful reproduction of animals and plants respectively. It includes 5 questions or tasks total which can be edited, copied and pasted into various forms of assessments to align to the NGSS.

Use these sample questions for: pre-assessments, check-ins or quizzes, unit tests, and/or for your professional growth objectives!

The questions cover the 3 dimensions of the NGSS and include:

  • constructed response questions
  • performance tasks
  • questions with multiple components

This set of questions require students to use Science and Engineering Practices as well as Crosscutting Concepts to demonstrate understanding of the Disciplinary Core Ideas. The SEPs and CCCs are listed for each PE. Keep in mind that the tasks require more time than a standard test question, therefore, there should be fewer questions on a test which allows for more time to solve the problems.

SAMPLE QUESTION:

The corpse flower, Amorphophallus titanum, is a special plant (more evidence and information provided in document). Use this information to answer the questions:

a. Student A claims that pollinators such as flesh flies and other carnivorous organisms may be responsible for the pollination and reproduction of the corpse flower. What evidence is she basing this on? If she is correct, what should her reasoning be?

b. Use the text to fill in the missing information for the Crosscutting Concept of “Cause and Effect” in the chart below (chart provided in document). Then, write one of your own!
