Matter and Its Interactions NGSS Grade 5 Bundle contains the four lesson packets designed to assess the fifth grade Physical Science Standards :PS1-1, PS1-2, PS1-3, PS1-4. Lessons are designed for assessment but are equally strong as use for teaching the concepts.
Each lesson packet begins with a whole class activity and ends with an individual performance assessment. Teacher background, Science Reading Notes, Teaching Tips, Rubrics for scoring, and Student recording sheets are included.
Students prove that matter is made of particles too small to be seen through the development of a model. Students engage in activities where they show their understanding, that regardless of the type of change that matter undergoes, the total weight of matter is conserved. They identify similar substances by testing, observing and recording properties. Students mix two or more substances that result in new substances. They must use the crosscutting concepts of patterns; cause and effect; scale, proportion, and quantity; energy and matter as organizing concepts for these disciplinary core ideas. Students have opportunities to demonstrate grade-appropriate proficiency in developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, using mathematics and computational thinking, engaging in argument from evidence, and obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information and to use these practices to demonstrate understanding of the core ideas.
Individual lessons can be viewed under the NGSS Grades 3-5 tab on the website: www.scienceandkidsactivities.com
Lessons are also sold separately on Teachers Pay Teachers site.
