NGSS MS LS 4-3
Worksheet
Student will define embryology and explain how similarities among embryos show evidence of evolution. Illustrate and label early through late embryological development of two different organisms. Both chicken and human embryos go through a stage where they have slits and arches in their necks like the gill slits and gill arches of fish.
These structures are not gills and do not develop into gills in chicks and humans. Analyze why. What facts can you compile to support the hypothesis, “mammals and fish are more closely related than they appear to be based on their adult features”?

Answer key included.

Can be edited for younger or older students.
