“The K.I.M. Strategy is a low prep, high yield strategy that supports ALL levels of learners across ALL content areas.”

What is it? It's a direct vocabulary instruction strategy. The acronym stands for Key word, Important information, Memory clue and Sentence. You may choose to have students do this inside their notebooks (no-prep), but you could also print out and use the graphic organizer (low-prep). I typically give them the printed graphic organizer for the first few assignments, then have them draw them into their interactive notebooks. Although student definitions will be the same, pictures and sentences will likely vary.

These vocabulary words have been chosen to support what students need to know to master the Next Generation Science Standard:
MS-ESS1-1 Earth's Place in the Universe
Students who demonstrate understanding can: MS-ESS1-1. Develop and use a model of the Earth-sun-moon system to describe the cyclic patterns of lunar phases, eclipses of the sun and moon, and seasons. [Clarification Statement: Examples of models can be physical, graphical, or conceptual.]
