Should the teacher be working harder than the students?

It seems to me that I am usually working much harder than my students. I’m up in front (sometimes literally) tap dancing to get my point across. This is your opportunity as a teacher to have the students lead the class. You sit back with your rubric and evaluate them.

Product includes teacher directions, student directions*, and rubric with grading scale.

Depending upon the size, ambition, and speed of your class, research for their presentations will take three 50-minute class periods. Each presentation should be between 5 and 10 minutes.

Students will work on the following:

active reading
oral presentation practice (diction, projection, etc.)
PowerPoint or other presentation software
(or visual art skills if creating a paper poster or trifold)
creative methods to engage an audience

*Note - Because I have a number of students with learning disabilities, I have put the student directions in the "opendyslexic" font. It is a font that helps some students with dyslexia read a bit more fluently. The font is free and I simply downloaded it from and it showed up in my Word dropdown list without doing anything. If you do not have opendyslexic, your download may revert to your default font. In that case, you may or may not want to change the formatting bit.
