Teachers: This lesson was created for those days in which you need a quick, interesting, and high value lesson with NO PREP. This is also perfect for days in which you have a substitute. There is no need to assign filler work; any teacher can guide his or her students through this material. You can put it on a Smartboard and work through it together or make copies and have them work independently or with a partner. I'm very proud of this and I wish I had this during my first years or teaching science! If you would like to extend it, there is a bonus activity in which students research a biome and create their own food web.
NOTE* Because many of my students are dyslexic, I have created this with the free font “open dyslexic.” Feel free to change the font to your liking. Here is a link to get this font for yourself if you have students who might find it helpful: https://opendyslexic.org/ If you do not have opendyslexic, you may need to alter the formatting a bit to fit the size and style of your default font.
This lesson covers important information for PSSAs (Pennsylvania System of School Assessment) and Next Generation Science Standards https://www.nextgenscience.org/topic-arrangement/5matter-and-energy-organisms-and-ecosystems
