NON VERBAL COMMUNICATION: "Read Body Language/Gesture/Facial Expression Signals" discusses the body language, gestures, and facial messaging that we often send to others - both positive and negative. It could be the way you walk, how you handle your hand/arms, or simply the raising of your eye brow. The two activities included in this document are bound to get a reaction from your students as they learn about IT'S WHAT YOU DON'T SAY THAT COUNTS!" The first activity includes searching for magazine pictures of people that demonstrate positive and negative non-verbal imagery to others. The second activity emphasizes how the "quiet but distracting" student overtures (behaviors) that take place in a classroom setting disrupt the learning of others. Both will grab their attention and will make students conscious of their actions because actions speak much more loudly than words.
