***STUDENT CHOICE OF 8 DIFFERENT ARTICLES***

Lesson Directions:
Introduce the topic to them by having the students do a quick write:
If you had to choose one person who is the most inspirational person in your life, who would it be and why? What makes them so inspirational?

Then, discuss qualities that makes somebody inspirational – both good and bad.

Introduce the writing piece so they have an “end in mind” for this assignment.
You can choose between the two options as a teacher.
-Expository Essay Prompt (included)
-Short Answer (included)

Give a brief summary of each person in the packet to allow the students to have an educated selection of their person.

There are multiple ways to assign these articles:
-Have each person choose 2 people and have them compare and contrast qualities and characteristics in the Venn Diagram (included).
-Have each person choose 1 person and have them complete the Read and Respond Chart over that person (included).

Have a classroom discussion/debate over who is the most inspirational person in the packet.

Students must use text evidence in their discussions/arguments.
-Teacher can track claims and evidence to reward a “winner”.
-Teacher can track claims and evidence to provide a discussion grade for the class.
