This is an 110 page DOUBLE novel unit study on the text I Survived Hurricane Katrina, 2005 and the text I Survived The San Francisco Earthquake. There is one before reading activity for each text. Each chapter has comprehension questions, including at least two short response questions (with evidence statements sentence starters at the bottom of the page), comic strip drawings, vocabulary analysis, visualizing, or summarizing.
There are 6 extended response questions for each text.
I included a variety of character study questions and tables to utilize either during reading, or as a concluding activity. There are also 3 art connection questions and 7 journaling pages to use with any chapter of the text. This is meant to enable teachers to differentiate easily. The 7 journaling pages include:
- Summarizing (Somebody Wanted But So)
- Story Elements
- Sequence Words
- Character Traits
I also included NYS test prep posters that we reference while reading the text including:
- Main Idea
- Context Clues
- Text Features
- Text Structure
There is also a list of suggestions for other extension activities to go along with any novel.
This unit has a variety of questions and activities in order to make differentiation easier.
