The SPLAT pairs are 10/90, 20/80, 30/70, 40/60 and 50/50. These are the pairs I have included in the POSTER (see PREVIEW).
This game is based on the old SNAP game but, instead of slapping the deck when the same two numbers appear, players look for consecutive numbers that add to 100.
I developed this game when I found SPLAT 10 to be so effective. Kids loved playing it and learned the bonds of 10 quickly. I have since changed the DIRECTIONS a little as I now ask the players to "call" the bond, so if a 20 is face up, all the players have to say, "Eighty" before the next card is played. This is great for consolidation and fluency.
This game is magic for children having trouble learning these facts and they can then go on to money concepts more easily.
I use this game in Intervention but you could also add it to a Maths Centre, especially if you have already introduced it to some of your kids through Intervention. Mixing ability groups gives support to those students who need it. Put the POSTER up and they will fly. I use 54 cards (6 sets), and this is fine for 4 kids.
