There are four BOARD GAMES in this bundle.
* COUNT ONS - 2 games - Adding 1, 2 or 3 up to 10 and up to 20
* DOUBLES and NEAR DOUBLES to 20
* ADDING 9 or 10
You will need one or two DICE and one COUNTER to get started.
The game format is unusual because the players use only one counter. This is the fun element that will have students playing over and over. One player is going in one direction, the other in the opposite direction. The attractive theme is The Little Red Hen and once students know how to play you can target the specific skills you want students to learn by using the different boards.
I have included the game "ADDING 9 and 10" in the preview, if you want to print that and see how your students enjoy playing it before purchasing the four games.
I laminate all my games and store them according to the skill focus. You have the initial expense of setting up your resources, but after that you just pull out the game you want and it's ready to go - no photocopying or preparation. I copy the DIRECTIONS page on to the back of the game boards.
These days I teach intervention skills so my games target specific skills that you may want to target for concept development or consolidation. You can give them to a group of mixed ability with two students playing two students. Mix the ability and the player with stronger skills will support their partner in an effort to win. This is a great way to be inclusive and students can learn more from each other than from us (and there's research around to back that up).
If I was still a classroom teacher I would use these games for consolidation in a maths centre or for RTI. You could also consider having games sessions as a regular feature or as a reward. It depends on the needs and abilities of your kids.
