Purchase this lesson plan for six different activities you can use as whole group activities, individual worksheets, literacy centers, or homework. These activities teach the following skills:

Each activity follows the Name Detective theme, encouraging students to learn spelling and letter/syllable recognition with an inquisitive approach, following the letter clues to solve the mystery of creating new words. Every activity page matches the theme graphically as well. Students will be excited to join your Name Detective Agency, searching the evidence of consonants, vowels, and syllables, learning literacy skills in a fun way!

-Name Detective Song
This is a fun song with simple words and motions sung to an easily recognizable tune. It is great for getting all children involved during large group time.
-Name Detective WorkSheet #1
Student "detectives" look for vowels, consonant, and syllable clues in their own names. It can be used as a whole group activity or as a literacy center.
-Name Detective WorkSheet #2
Student detectives cut out the letter "clues" of their names to create new words. It can be used as a literacy center or work to be done at home with family.
Student detectives use the letter clues for graphic organization - sorting them into a Venn Diagram.
-Spy Glass Name Worksheet
Student detectives search letter "clues" to match the letters in their name. (An editable Word document is included for this activity, for teachers to type students' names onto the worksheet before printing, customizing it for your classroom. A PDF is also included if you prefer hand-writing after printing.) This is a great literacy center activity.
-Spy Glass Name Activity
As a large group activity, this page can be laminated for repeated use to help student detectives guess letter "clues" to solve a mystery student's name.
