:: Name Plates are an individualized learning resource strip that supports all children.

1 in 5 children have some sort of learning or attention difficulties. In my classroom last year, nearly 75% of my students had some sort of learning issue. My expertise in is learning difficulties and individualized instruction. I have been teaching for 30 years and I am profoundly dyslexic. Yes, I was that kid who didn’t sit still, couldn’t read or write.

As a dyslexic adult and teacher, when I see UPPER and lower case letters side by side on an alphabet strip, it confuses my brain and the letters start to swirl together. This is the same for any beginning learner or child learning or attention difficulties.

I strongly believe in having access points for all students. These Name Plates are really resource learning strips that provide isolated support that are specific for each child’s needs or our needs in the classroom.

The Name Plates are designed so that the print is large, high contrast with limited distractions. I prefer to print in colour on white tag. Black and white printing will confuse the learner with multiple black lines flowing into each other. Thus you will notice I didn’t offer black and white options with top guidelines…just too much line confusion. With beginning learners, I use the Name Plates without the top guide lines. This limits the distractions on the learning strip.

These bookmarks are designed in a Mix and Match format. You are able to pick templates that works for your class, depending on the needs and the abilities of your students…so many possibilities.

In my classroom, I do not have traditional seating spots. My kiddos are free to move around the classroom to choose where they are working…I am a Montessori teacher. I have the kids Name Plates inside or stuck to the top of their pencil boxes.
