Name poems are a valuable way for students to explore their identity and connect it to literature they read. This document has three parts:
1. Instructions for writing a name poem (which you can specify if connecting to a novel)
2. A four stanza scaffold for students to write a name poem about themselves, if they need a more structured version.
3. An example about myself that can be an exemplar for students.
Activity takes about 30-45 minutes depending on age (used with 5th-10th graders) and depending whether you use it as a standalone icebreaker or in conjunction with a novel.
