A fun and sometimes hilarious game that teaches students how to infer the tone/emotion of a passage.
8 Instruction Statements from which students in groups of 4, 5 or 6 create sentences using words to get a particular tone across. The rest of the class tries to guess the tone of the sentence.
Tone/Emotion List including 11 tones/emotions from which to guess.
You simply print out the strips; have groups randomly choose a tone and an instruction statement; each group works together to come up with a couple of sentences based on their chosen tone and instruction statement; next, they write the sentences on the board or on a sheet of paper for displaying on a projector; when all groups are ready, the first group reads its sentence, and whole-class guessing begins. Some tones and Instruction Statements don't quite match, which can result in some humorous sentences! My reading students love this game!
