Students will use an entrance ticket to discover the pattern to naming simple ionic compounds, and they will learn how to create compound formulas given the name. The will actively roll dice to create their own examples and consolidate their learning through a TIC TAC TOE activity.

If you are an Ontario teacher this resource lends well to lead up to SNC2D: C2.1, & C3.8 and SNC2P: C2.1, & C3.2. But leads well in both courses to creating equations.
For SNC2P I do not use the TIC TAC TOE and for the dice roll activity have them re-roll the dice if they land on a multivalent metal (coloured differently on dice).
