The act of presenting can be anxiety inducing for third graders! I found that the idea of Book Talks can make students very nervous. In order to be successful, third graders benefit from utilizing a structured graphic organizer that guides them through the process! This organizer works GREAT for both organizing ideas AND presenting ideas to the class in a sequential, informative way!
One of the lessons in this unit requires students to complete a Book Talk. A Book Talk is is similar to a book report. Students are expected to read a "Just Right" text and complete this organizer about their book which they will then present to the class.
This Book Talk organizer provides the structure needed for students to complete this task independently and successfully. The organizer can be used as a script that students can read or memorize when presenting to the class. The goal of a Book Talk is to encourage and persuade other readers to read your book!
